Debtor attempts to pay police with ten buckets of cranberries
A resident of the Tomsk Oblast has tried to settle his debts for insurance premiums with ten buckets of fresh cranberries. The federal bailiffs service for the region report this on Wednesday 5th December. We are told that the berries were not taken from the debtor.
According to reports, the businessman from the town of Kedroviy had not paid deposits to the sum of 16,000 roubles [£325, 400€]. Due to this, legal proceedings were taken against the man. Immediately afterwards, the Siberian paid a part of the debt, but in order to pay off the debt completely, he was short 9,600 roubles [£200, 240€].
Then, the businessman collected wild cranberries (the collection of berries is the main basis of his company), and brought them to the headquarters of the bailiffs service. He offered workers in the department ten buckets of berries as a payment, but they refused, and explained to him that “this type of payment is not possible”.
In the end, the man found a buyer for his berries, and a few hours after the unsuccessful attempt to give berries to the bailiffs, he arrived at the headquarters with the amount missing from the sum of his debt. After this, the case against the debtor was closed.
