Scientists Find Yeti Hair In South West Siberia

From Lenta.ru:

Scientists have given their report on the DNA of the Kuznetsk Coal Basin yeti

Russian scientists along with colleagues from America have studied the DNA of the Kuzbass yeti, writes “Komsomolskaya Pravda”. The newspaper reported that experts who worked with hair found in Azasskaya cave (in the Shoria Mountain, which is believed to be the birthplace of the Russian abominable snowman), found that the samples are those of a being which is not human, but has a lot in common with us.

According to Valentine Sapunov, doctor of biological sciences, professor, and member of the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, the research on the hair was carried out in Moscow, St. Petersburg and the state of Idaho.

“Three DNA examinations […] gave the exact same result. It turns out that after analysis, the hair does not belong to a human nor to a primate, but a being very close to man,” said Sapunov. “The yeti is different from a human being – in terms of DNA – by just a fraction of a percent”, the professor’s publication says.

The expedition into the Azasskaya cave was in October 2011. During the expedition, Russian and American experts found nests, footprints, and hair from the yeti, the news agency “Kuzbass” reports. The material was collected and formed the basis of the study.

What the scientists plan to do now is not reported. Whether they are planning to continue their study and attempt to track down a live abominable snowman is unknown. The reaction of the Kuzbass authorities to the experts’ discovery is also not reported. […]

Why is this under the heading “From life”, and not “Progress”? Are the editors trying to say something?

[Note: “From life” is a section where odd and unusual news stories are published, while “Progress” is where science news normally appears.]

bokasso:

Just as long as they don’t clone it and create a new species of yeti. They’ll waste millions, and the result will be just another monkey. )))

Walter:

The yeti isn’t a ghost. There have to be skeletal remains at least.

бравый солдат Швейк: (responding to above)

There should certainly be droppings

Walter:

By the way, for catching a snow man, the governor of the Keremovskaya Oblast Aman Tuleev is promising 1,000,000 roubles [£20,000, 25,000€] ))) Why not a billion?

AndreyLu: (responding to above)

Although he’s made of snow, genetically speaking, it’s a person. So to catch him without a warrant is somehow completely undemocratic…

Omega_Juice:

Sapunov is scum. In Leningrad, he’s better known for searching for abominable snowman droppings in the Leningrad Oblast with a solemn demonstration of what he finds afterwards.

GT/DT:

All the best to the yetis!

ViLk:

The steel mills in the Kuzbass have been working for a while, it’s not just Yetis that are there…

Се Дой:

I’m more than certain that the Yeti really exists. The fact that our ancestors were in contact with snowmen is anchored in the Russian language with the well-known saying “Your, Yeti” )))

[Note: “Your mom, Yeti” is a play on words with an archaic Russian swear word, meaning something similar to ебать, or fuck.]
