Maria Sharapova comes top of Russian celebrity ratings
The Russian version of Forbes magazine has compiled a list of the top Russian celebrities. In 2013, the 26-year-old tennis player Maria Sharapova came top. The list of the country’s 50 main stars was published on the magazine’s website on 25 July.
Following the athlete, who earns over $29 million a year, is the singer Grigoriy Leps. In third position is conductor Valery Gergiev. Fourth was singer Philip Kirkorov, and fifth place went to the captain of the NHL team, “Washington Capitals”, Alexander Ovechkin. The 2011 and 2012 leader of the rankings, Stas Mikhailov, came sixth.
It is noteworthy that as well as Sharapova, only two other women featured in the top 10 Russian celebrities. They are the television and radio presenter Ksenia Sobchak and model Natalia Vodyanova. The full top ten is as follows (in brackets, their income in millions of dollars):

In order to create the list, the publication considers the frequency with which a celebrity is referred to in print media, the number of searches for their name online, and the star’s income. The overall leader was Sharapova, although many others bypassed her in terms of number of mentions in newspapers.
Maria Sharapova regularly features on lists of the most influential celebrities in the American version of Forbes. As a rule, she is the only Russian on the lists.
