14 Members of the Arctic Sunrise Crew Charged with Piracy
All of them are Greenpeace activists, Interfax was told by Michael Kreindlin, lawyer for the Russian branch of the ecological organisation. He says that they are Russian, British, Brazilian, Finish and Dutch citizens. The lawyer stated that he doesn’t know whether charges will be brought against the remainder of the ice-breaker’s crew. Prior to the Murmansk court’s decision, all thirty people were arrested, including the cook, the ship’s doctor, and journalist Denis Sinyakov.
We recall that on the 18th September, Greenpeace activists tried to get access to an oil platform on the Pechorskiy sea in order to protest against oil drilling in the Arctic.
Dmitry Medvedev, in turn, has just announced that caring about the environment is not an excuse for illegal activities.

There are no yard arms any more. But the court can give all the members of the crew a couple to ten years, that’d be fine. Next time they’ll think twice about whether the money they earn from their protests is worth their freedom.
