Mother wins 20,000 roubles [£430, 500€] after suing students for playing a joke on her son
The case in the Voronezh Oblast, demanding compensation for moral damage caused by the teenagers bullying their peers,has become the first of its kind in Russia.
The unprecedented decision was made by one of the Voronezh Oblast district courts. The mother was able to punish the bullies of her son financially. The families of the five teenagers paid 21,500 roubles [£465, 540€] for humiliating the child.
The incident took place in the village of Krasnolipye in the Voronezh Oblast. Four school children from 13-15 decided to play Russian rounders. The boys had fun, running around not far from the school, until the ball crashed into an old wooden toilet.
Then, the four boys decided that it was Igor K who had to get the ball back at all costs. But Igor refused, and then the boy was punched and spat on from all sides.
“They forced me into the toilet and said that I had to get the ball”, the victim, Igor K, told Life News. “Then, they locked me in. I tried to push the door, but they were holding it. They threatened that they would nail it shut and leave me there forever. Of course, I didn’t expect this from my best friends, I couldn’t even imagine this happening.”
The boys mother wrote a statement to the police, but they did not consider the teenagers’ actions to be illegal. Igor K’s family had to approach the court to receive compensation for moral damages.
“When I saw on the video that they had tried to stick my son’s head down the toilet and kick him, my heart grew heavy. His best friends did this, who I welcomed into my home and made tea for. I’m a single mother of three children, but I won’t let anyone hurt them”, said Igor’s mother, Tatyana K.
The defendants are surprised with the punishment, and consider the payment for the adolescent pranks to be too high.
“My son didn’t beat or humiliate Igor”, Elena B told Life News, one of the teenagers’ mothers. “They all tried to get this ill-fated ball back, but we couldn’t prove in court that they were all as bad as each other. And Igor’s mother was in the wrong as well, could she not have just come round and asked what had been going on? But no, she ran straight to the police with a statement. Well, you know yourselves, boys’ games aren’t like girls’, maybe they crossed the line. And now they’re pouring dirt onto us, I’m afraid to say.”
At the Repyevskiy district court, the families involved in the conflict signed a settlement. For moral damages, the hooligans’ parents paid 21,500 roubles.
“The Ostrogozhskiy court considered a compensation case for moral and material damages filed by the legal representatives of one of the minors against the others,” Nadezhda Kritinina, judge of Repyevskiy regional court in the Voronezh Oblast told Life News. “The sum originally demanded was 100,000 roubles, but after a settlement by the two sides, the plaintiff reduced her demands, and the court granted the agreement. In general, this sort of case is extremely rare, the last case I can remember like this was about ten years ago.”

Let these “little angels” reflect on the fact that actions have consequences! Does the other mother have eyes? Would she be able to watch the video and not protect her son? Well played by the judge!

There’s only one solution to this sort of problem: Send the lad straight off to learn boxing or judo. In six months he’ll feel like the world around him has become a lot more harmonious.
