In recent years, Russia has freed more than 100,000 prisoners
The number of prisoners in Russia is continuing to decrease. This was reported on Sunday by the Russian Government’s press service, summing up the first year of Dmitry Medvedev‘s cabinet.
“The number of people held in prisons has decreased from 818,000 people in 2010 to 702,000 at the end of 2012, and to 695,594 by the 1st April 2013”, the message from the government’s press service says
In addition, the number of community service sentences increased in 2012. The number these sentences according to government data increased by 56% last year, Itar-Tass reports.
