Landing ship “Bison” scared people relaxing on the beach near Kaliningrad
The “Bison” landing ship beached near Kaliningrad in front of astonished holidaymakers. A video from the place of the incident has ended up on the internet.
The incident took place last weekend on the beach of the Mechnikovo village in the Baltiyskiy region of the Kaliningrad Oblast. The sailors managed to land the destroyer properly only after a few attempts the regional news outlet Kaliningrad.ru reports.
According to Komosomolskaya Pravda, marines “ran out of the newly arrived ‘Bison’ and set up a cordon around the ship, chasing away onlookers.” The holidaymakers, having ensured that no-one was shooting at them, and the soldiers were behaving peacefully carried on with their summer beach business, the newspaper reports.
The Defense Ministry’s press service, commenting on the incident, stated that the “Bison” carried out a tactical assignment on a wild beach that the ministry owns.
We add that “Bison” is considered the largest hovercraft in the world. It is designed to take on and transport amphibious assault units and combat equipment, as well as offer fire support for landed troops. In addition, the ship can transport mines and set up minefields.
