Sochi sets daily birth rate record
On the day of the opening of the Olympic Games in Sochi, a record daily birth rate was set for the past ten years. As Interfax reports, on the 7th of February in the capital of the 22nd Winter Olympics, 34 children came into the world – 24 boys and 10 girls.
On the night of the Olympics itself, seven children were born: four boys and three girls. In particular, one boy was born at the very minute the games were opened – 20:14 Moscow time.
The opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics took place in the evening of the 7th February at the “Fisht” stadium. The right to light the Olympic flame was given to the three-time Olympic champion, president of the Russian Hockey Federation, Vladislav Tretyak and the three-time Olympic figure-skating champion Irina Rodina.
The Olympic Games in Sochi will last until the 23rd February. There will be 98 sets of medals awarded in 15 disciplines.
