The Magnitsky Law, also known as the Magnitsky Act, and formally the Russia and Moldova Jackson-Vanik Repeal and Sergei Magnitsky Rule of Law Accountability Act of 2012. It is a law that was passed in the US in late 2012 forbidding a specific list of Russians from entering the US or using American banks, as a response to the death of Sergei Magnitsky, who died in prison after investigating tax fraud among Russian officials. Russia responded by passing the Dima Yakovlev Law.
